The three major functions of the Liver are…
- Protein Synthesis.
Your liver filters all of the blood that moves through your body. But your liver goes beyond just simple filtering.
Your liver will balance the pH of your blood keeping it at a steady 7.40 and pull all of the harmful toxins out of your blood.
But what happens to these toxins?
Well, two main things happen…
First, your liver will turn the toxin into Urea which then travels to the kidneys to be excreted through your urine.
For more complex toxins, your liver will break these down into molecules called free radicals.
Free radicals are harmful molecules that come from the breakdown of toxins and from the process of metabolism that we’ll talk about shortly.
Make sure to remember and research these pesky free radicals. Free radicals are responsible for the majority of irreparable cell damage within your liver and across your entire body.

Your liver creates bile.
Bile helps break down fats and carry away waste during the digestion process in the small intestine. The amount of bile released is controlled by the Gall Bladder.

What Will Harm Your Liver? - Refined Sugars
First, let’s clear the air. What the heck is Refind Sugar??
Well here’s a simple way to look at it…
There are two types of sugars.
Natural sugars, which are found in milk, cheese, and fruits. These sugars are good for you! They’re good for you because they’re hard to consume in high amounts due to their naturally low concentration in foods. But natural sugars are also good for you because they come in a package deal with fat and protein in milk and cheese, and with vitamins and fiber in fruits!
Now the bad sugar. Refined Sugar.
Refined sugar comes from chemically extracting sugar from sugar cane or sugar beets. This is the sugar that’s primarily added to virtually every single pre-packaged food and drink in America.
Here’s why it’s bad…
First, refined sugar doesn’t come in a package deal. You have an endless supply of foods and soft drinks that have a heap of sugar but don’t carry any nutritional value, they’re empty calories.
The second problem is how much sugar is really in the processed foods we eat. One can of Mountain Dew has 46g of sugar in it, that’s equivalent to 30 lemons worth of sugar! In one can!
When you slam your liver full of refined sugar it causes deposits of fat to grow on your liver. This slows down your liver’s overall effectiveness.
Over long periods of time these excess deposits of fat can begin permanently scarring your liver which can ultimately go so far that you need a liver replacement!

What Will Harm Your Liver? - Trans & Saturated Fats

Now, there are three main types of fat, two of which are bad for your health and especially bad for your liver.
Trans Fats are the worst possible kind of fat. Trans fats are a type of laboratory-made fat that’s created when hydrogen is added to vegetable oil. It’s primarily used to give a food product a thicker consistency or a longer shelf life.
The FDA has been forcing food companies to phase trans fats out of foods FOREVER! So avoiding this will be easier as time goes on!
Next, we have Saturated Fats.
Saturated fats are solid fats, and they’re not entirely bad. The government recommends that 10% or less of your daily calories should be coming from this type of fat. The problem is when people eat these fats in excess and fat begins to pile onto your liver, causing irreparable damage.

What Will Harm Your Liver? - Over The Counter Meds, Especially This Common One!
Over-the-counter meds put huge stress on your liver.

Acetaminophen is one of the worst offenders. Acetaminophen is also known as Tylenol or Paracetamol.
