Red Light Therapy (RLT), or also known as red light photobiomodulation, has been studied since the early 1990s by many scientists, including NASA, because of its properties relating to growth and photosynthesis. To date, there are thousands of studies published on red light therapy and photobiomodulation.
NASA's interest was relative to the ability of red light therapy to support muscle atrophy and bone density, which are concerns surrounding weightlessness during space travel.
Red light therapy was then studied more extensively in other scientific arenas for its ability to support cellular metabolism, support skin health and collagen production, assist in detoxification, support a healthy inflammatory response and provide energy to cells. Red light at the 625 nm and 660 nm frequency produces a biochemical effect in cells that support the mitochondria and can even support mitochondrial biogenesis, which is the creation of new mitochondria. The mitochondria are the cell's powerhouse where the cells' energy is created.
The energy-carrying molecule found in the cells of all living things is ATP, adenosine triphosphate. Red light therapy may support the production of ATP so that cells may function more efficiently and assist in the body’s natural restoring ability. Please note that our Red Light Watch does not keep track of the time clock as a regular watch does, but is instead used specifically for emitting our red light technology on your skin.
